Daddy’s Boy

Freddy has found his comfort place. He’s the only one who sleeps there. He’s still working on healing. Started heartworm treatment a week ago then ended up back to the vet 2 days later with an infected salivary gland. Poor guy! He’s had things none of our other dogs has had. They had to lance it but thankfully they were able to install his microchip while he was under anesthesia. He goes back tomorrow for a follow up visit, then his next heartworm treatment on May 15. Some day he’ll be able to get vaccinations and neutered. He also has a 6-month follow up with the eye specialist coming up. His eye looks perfect now and we’re no longer having to medicate it.

He’s turning into a sweet pup. He still has spats with the alpha dog but he’s calmed down somewhat. I hope it’ll get even better after he’s neutered.

Sleep Tight, Angels

Freddy, Zoe and Sweetpea sleeping off doggy dinner. Sweet, happy babies.

Happy 11th, Zoe

Congratulations to our Zoe on her 11th birthday. She’s 3 1/2 pounds of spoiled dog and we wouldn’t have her any other way.

8.2!

At the vet today

Freddy is up to 8.2 pounds. Doc says that’s a good weight for him. He’s doing great, happy and sweet.

Healing Process

Freddy is settling in just fine now. His eye is almost completely healed; he is out of the “cone of shame” for good and figuring out his place in the pack. He still has some rough patches but he’s getting there. The girls are relaxing around him, and they even cuddle together to sleep most nights. He’s gained over two pounds, has topped 8 pounds now and still eating like a little pig. He’s learned to go for rides in the car with the entire family. Even though it’s noisy, it’s still fun.

He is the loudest voice in the security detail for our house. He hears everything and responds when no other dog does. We don’t let him sleep in the bed with us (we already have two with us) so put a bed right outside our door so he can at least be close. If we open the door he’s in the bed in an instant so there’s no in between. So he makes sure the rest of the house is protected when we’re sleeping.

He goes back to the eye specialist next month and then will start back with our vet for his other treatments. She said it would probably be February before we treat the heartworms and that has to be done first. He enjoyed all the holidays and loves his new family. He’s a sweet little guy but is a little snappy when he doesn’t get his way. That will change as he learns the rules better.

Happy Holidays to all!

Superman

At least that’s what his collar says. Freddy has gained 1.6 pounds and is off all his medications except for the eye stuff. He went to the eye specialist this morning and got good news. Hopefully he’ll be out of the cone in a couple of weeks. He’s on the 3rd cone so far. He may be little but he’s a destroyer! He went to the vet yesterday with his cone taped together with scotch tape. We bought another one at Petco on the way home yesterday because they were out at the vet. The eye doctor had a better one so he wore that one home today. He came home with three more meds and goes back in two weeks.

He dragged around here for over a week and was so sick that a couple of days I had doubts he’d wake up in the morning. Then, after about 9 days on multiple meds and prescription food, he woke up bouncing. DH let him out of his crate in the morning to go outside and he came in happy. After touring the back yard, he came running through the house, put his paws on my knees and gave me kisses on my lips. Wow! That was a big improvement in a small amount of time.

I bought him a personalized collar and leash with the Superman motif on it. He’s going to be a healthy, happy man before long.

Freddy the Freeloader

Meet Freddy. He came into our lives Tuesday. His owners had passed away and left him to starve. He’s gained almost a pound in 6 days so we’re going in the right direction. He has an infected eye we’re trying to save and has to have a lot of medical interventions, but he’s a sweet little boy who we have fallen in love with.

He’s 8 years old and only weighed 6 pounds. You can see every bone in his body, so he eats everything we offer him. We’re feeding him off and on all day and he’s loving it. He doesn’t seem to have any emotional trauma, thankfully, so we’ll just continue to heal his body and love him all we can.

He’s going to the vet every 3 days while we work on his eye. He’s on multiple medications and prescription food. But he’s good with taking his medication and there’s been minimal issues with our dogs. There was one spat with the alpha dog but no blood drawn and they seem to be at a truce since then. He’s such a lovable little thing that it’s hard not to make our dogs jealous or offend them. We’re working on it all. So far it’s working. Wish us luck!

Happy 15th, Gypsy

She made it! Gypsy had a health scare a few weeks ago and we wondered if it would be her last, but, thankfully, everything has worked out and she’s fit as a fiddle. She goes to the cardiologist in a couple of weeks to see if she needs to start on medication for her heart but that’s not a big deal either way. We’ll do whatever it takes to keep her healthy.

In the picture above she’s eating pumpkin cake on her birthday. They love cakes from Starbucks so we made a special trip to make sure she had the best for her special day. We love you, Ms Gypsy!!!

Happy Birthday. ZsaZsa

Seven years old today, our baby dog. ZsaZsa. Last night we spent 3 hours in the ER with her. The first time she’s ever been sick and it has to be on her birthday. Just digestive issues and she seems better today. I took her out in the car for a bit and she was quieter but still enjoyed it. She’s kept 4 teaspoons of canned food down so I think she’s going to be just fine.
